Hero Firemen Save Two Teens Lost in Forest After Spotting Their WhatsApp Location

Two teenagers who became lost in the forest while hiking at Bukit Cherok Tok Kun, known for its largest buttress trees in Penang, were swiftly located and rescued by the fire brigade. The rescue was facilitated by the use of a smartphone.

Assistant operations director of the Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), John Sagun Francis, stated that the victims shared their location via WhatsApp at 1.16 pm with the department. A team from the Bukit Mertajam Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), consisting of five personnel, was dispatched to the area and conducted the search and rescue operation for the teenagers, with support from the public.

According to John Sagun Francis, “The two 18-year-olds were found and brought down safely, with the operation ending at 4.14 pm.” He further noted that the victims had subsequently been handed over to their guardians.
