Citadines, supported by Ascott International Management Malaysia, successfully conducted a large-scale community initiative in Penang on 26 February 2025. The event brought together over 80 staff members from all 22 Ascott properties across Malaysia, including top management who travelled from various states.
The initiative focused on two key projects: a cleanup of Sungai Air Itam and renovation work at Crystal Family Home, an orphanage and care centre for children.
Lee Boon Kae, Group General Manager overseeing multiple Citadines properties in Penang, organised the CSR initiative. “As a responsible corporate entity, we believe in making a difference where it matters the most,” he said.
The event saw participation from Ascott Malaysia’s leadership team, including Sophie Mougel, Vice President, Strategy & Regional General Manager for the Philippines and Malaysia, and Mondi Mecja, Country General Manager Malaysia.
YB Joseph Ng Soon Siang, who collaborated on the river cleanup project, noted, “This is the first time that an entire corporate group has participated in such an activity. I hope this effort continues and can be expanded to involve local schools.”
At Crystal Family Home, volunteers assisted with repairs, painting and creating a more comfortable environment for the 11 children aged 9 to 18. Pastor David Bernabas, who oversees the home, expressed appreciation, stating the activity showed the children they are cared for beyond financial donations.
The initiative forms part of Ascott’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility through its Ascott Cares programme, which promotes environmental awareness and community involvement.
Ascott, which pioneered Asia Pacific’s first international class serviced residence in 1984, now operates over 960 properties globally across 230 cities in more than 40 countries.
