Penang Gets Ready: Police Unveil High-Alert Security Plans for Malaysia Day 2025 Celebrations

Police have established a comprehensive security plan ahead of the Malaysia Day 2025 celebration, set for 16 September at the PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena. According to Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail, officers, including traffic personnel, will be deployed to ensure the safety of dignitaries and attendees.

“So far, we’ve been informed that around 30 ministers and deputy ministers, along with other VIPs, will be present. Police have taken all necessary measures to ensure the event proceeds smoothly,” Azizee told Bernama. He stated that there will be no road closures or diversions on routes leading to the venue. However, access into the PICCA compound will operate as one-way traffic on the day of the event.

Police will be stationed at key locations and along access routes to manage traffic and ensure a smooth flow. The final number of personnel to be deployed will be confirmed soon. The public is advised to comply with instructions from security personnel to maintain order during the event.

This year’s celebration, themed ‘Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni’, will feature a range of programmes and is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced in June that Penang would host the celebration, as part of the annual rotation among Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia.
