Proton Revvs Up for e.MAS 7 Tour Launch, Targets Top Spot in EV Market

Proton Holdings is gearing up to launch its first electric vehicle (EV), the Proton e.MAS 7, with a nationwide tour set to kick off on October 5. This initiative is part of the company’s strategy to lead the EV market in Malaysia.

The Proton e.MAS 7, co-developed with Geely, has undergone extensive on-road tests to ensure its readiness for the local market. According to PRO-NET, the testing regime has been thorough, with the prototypes covering significant distances to test their performance and reliability.

Proton has emphasized that the e.MAS 7 is not a mere re-badge of the Geely Galaxy E5, but rather a model that was co-developed concurrently as a global offering. Both the left-hand-drive (LHD) and right-hand-drive (RHD) versions of the Galaxy E5 and e.MAS 7 were developed together, involving no less than 230 Proton engineers and designers.

The e.MAS 7 is built on Geely’s new GMA platform architecture, which underpins both the e.MAS 7 and the Galaxy E5. This collaboration highlights the deep integration between Proton and Geely in developing their EV offerings.

Ahead of its market entry by the end of 2024, the Proton e.MAS 7 will embark on a nationwide tour, allowing the public to experience the vehicle firsthand. The tour, which will cover over 2,000 km across every state, including Sabah and Sarawak, aims to generate interest and build anticipation for the vehicle’s launch.

This move is part of Proton’s broader strategy to expand its market share in the EV sector. With the upcoming launch, Proton is eyeing a significant rise in the EV market, as indicated by EON’s forecast of a 2% EV market increase with the debut of the Proton e.MAS 7.

As Proton prepares to enter the EV market, the company is also celebrating recent successes, including a record-breaking July sales figure that saw a 37% increase.

The Proton e.MAS 7 tour, starting on October 5, will provide potential buyers with a hands-on experience of the vehicle, showcasing its features and performance. This initiative underscores Proton’s commitment to making affordable and reliable EVs accessible to the Malaysian market.
