Tragedy in Penang as young student falls to death; police uncover potential suicide note

A 14-year-old female student tragically lost her life after falling from the eighth floor of her school building in Jelutong, Penang. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday, and the student was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abdul Rozak Muhammad, the Northeast OCPD, the police received a report from a medical officer at Penang Hospital at 5:57 PM regarding the incident. ACP Abdul Rozak confirmed that the victim, a Form Two student, fell from the eighth floor of the school building and was found dead upon arrival of the emergency services.

The police have stated that there are no criminal elements involved in this case. “At this point of the investigation, we have found no criminal element in the incident,” ACP Abdul Rozak said. However, the police are still awaiting the results of the post-mortem conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Despite the absence of criminal elements, there have been reports suggesting the presence of an alleged suicide note. However, this detail has not been officially confirmed by the police in their public statements.

The police have opened a sudden death report to conduct further investigations into the case. ACP Abdul Rozak urged the public not to make any speculations about the incident that could affect the ongoing police investigations. He also requested that the public refrain from sharing photos or videos of the scene out of respect for the victim’s family.

In light of this tragic event, the authorities have reminded the public of the availability of mental health support services. Those suffering from mental health issues or contemplating suicide can reach out to various support services, including the Mental Health Psychosocial Support Service, Talian Kasih, Jakim’s Family, Social and Community care centre, and Befrienders Kuala Lumpur.
