JPJ Cracks Down on Express and Tour Buses: 25 Fined for Missing Second Drivers in Penang Blitz

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued summonses to 25 express and tour buses for failing to have a second driver on board during a special operation in Penang. This enforcement is in line with the regulations that require a second driver for trips exceeding four hours or 300 kilometers continuously.

According to JPJ, the presence of a second driver is compulsory to ensure the safety and well-being of both the drivers and the passengers. The regulation is designed to prevent driver fatigue, which can lead to accidents and other safety issues.

The special operation highlighted the non-compliance of several bus operators with this critical safety requirement. JPJ director emphasized the importance of adhering to these regulations to maintain road safety standards.

The summonses were issued as part of JPJ’s ongoing efforts to enforce road safety regulations and ensure that all public transportation operators comply with the necessary standards. This move is part of a broader initiative to reduce the risk of accidents and enhance the overall safety of road users.
