The second day of the Penang state-level Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2025 continued with visits to three more districts, commencing at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Batu Maung in the Barat Daya district. The convoy and guests arrived at 8 am, where they were warmly received by the school community.
The programme featured a lively Chinese drum performance by students from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Wen Khai, alongside students dressed in traditional costumes representing Malaysia’s multiracial society, serving as a symbol of national unity and harmony.
The celebration began with an emotional patriotic narrative titled ‘Lembaran Kisah Seutas Gelang: Datuk Siti Rahmah Kassim’, performed by Kumpulan Gema Nusantara from SMK Batu Maung, highlighting women’s contributions and sacrifices in the struggle for independence. This was followed by an energetic boria performance by the Seri Damar group from Sekolah Kebangsaan Permatang Damar Laut, and concluded with a patriotic rendition of the Jalur Gemilang song accompanied by flag-waving.
Deputy Chief Minister I, Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, who is also the Batu Maung assemblyman, officially launched the KMJG 2025 convoy in the Barat Daya district. The event was attended by the state Information Department (JaPen) director Hasmiza Hussin.
Hasmiza stated that the KMJG 2025 convoy is being conducted under the concept of passing the national flag along state borders throughout the country. “The journey in Penang began yesterday, covering Seberang Perai Selatan and Seberang Perai Tengah, and continued today in the Barat Daya district, with SMK Batu Maung as the first checkpoint. The convoy will next proceed to the Timur Laut and Seberang Perai Utara districts before being handed over to Kedah as part of the National Month celebration,” she said.
She added that the state-level KMJG 2025 involves participation from a range of agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Broadcasting Department, the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (Finas), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Department of Community Communications (J-KOM), and Pos Malaysia.
Also joining the convoy were representatives from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), as well as a motorcycle group from the Northern V-Strom Owners (NVO) Motor Club.
