Penang Factory Van Loses Control: One Fatality, Seven Trapped in Early Morning Accident

A woman has died and seven others, including the male van driver, sustained serious injuries after the factory van they were travelling in skidded and crashed on Jalan Mount Erskine.
The six injured women are aged between 21 and 52. Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations, John Sagun Francis, confirmed that his department received an emergency call at 5.59 am and responded promptly to the incident.

“Upon arrival, the team found that four of the eight people inside the van were still trapped in the wreckage,” John Sagun Francis stated. He added, “The Bagan Jermal Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) team, assisted by another team from the Lebuh Pantai BBP, managed to free all of them by 7.17 am using specialised equipment.”

One of the women died as a result of severe injuries, with her body transported to Penang Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The remaining injured victims were also conveyed to the same hospital for treatment.
