Dramatic Tilt: Inflatable Balloons Save Sinking Penang Ferry in Unprecedented Rescue

The Penang ferry, which was in the process of being converted into a floating museum, has encountered another setback after it began tilting again. This incident follows an earlier listing that started on October 6 at the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal, after the ferry was towed from the Bagan Dalam Slipway.

To address the issue, inflatable balloons are being employed to lift and stabilise the vessel before the leaks can be identified and patched. This method is intended to prevent further tilting and ensure the safety of the ferry during the repair process.

The ferry’s conversion into a floating museum has been ongoing, but the unexpected tilting has posed significant challenges. The use of inflatable balloons is a temporary solution to keep the ferry afloat and stable while the necessary repairs are carried out.

Rescue works are currently underway to rectify the situation and get the ferry back to a stable condition. The decision to use inflatable balloons highlights the urgency and the creative measures being taken to salvage the iconic vessel.
