The toll exemption period begins from November 11, 2023 (Saturday) at 12:01 AM and concludes on November 12, 2023 (Sunday) at 11:59 PM. This initiative, a testament to Malaysia’s commitment to fostering communal harmony, is a heartfelt gesture specifically for the Indian Hindu community celebrating Deepavali.
During these two days, all vehicle classes will enjoy toll-free passage through most toll plazas across the country. However, it’s important to note that toll charges will still apply at border toll plazas, namely the Sultan Iskandar Building Toll Plaza (BSI) and Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza in Johor.
The chosen dates for toll exemption have been strategically planned to alleviate potential traffic congestion as people travel to their hometowns and return to cities during the festive period. This thoughtful decision not only eases the burden on travelers but also ensures a smoother experience for everyone celebrating Deepavali.
To enhance the overall travel experience, additional logistics operations have been put in place. These include comprehensive traffic control management, the provision of essential services such as water supply and restrooms, and other facilities at designated Lay Bys and Rest & Service Areas along the highways.
The estimated traffic volume during these two toll-free days is substantial, with approximately 11.8 million vehicles expected to utilize the highways. To facilitate safe and efficient travel, users are strongly encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time.
