PBAPP Gears Up with 80 Tankers and 182 Tanks for 25th April Water Supply Disruption

Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) is set to mobilise 80 tanker lorries and 182 water tanks as part of its water relief plan during the planned water supply interruption commencing on 25 April. Datuk K. Pathmanathan, the chief executive officer, stated that this initiative aims to assist 341,708 consumers across five districts in Penang.

“The WRP will be implemented in three phases, with the first phase starting at 10 pm on 25 April and lasting until 10 pm the following day. During this time, 80 tanker lorries and 182 water tanks will be deployed to the Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT), Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS), Timur Laut, and Barat Daya districts, within the first 24 hours,” he said.

Phase two is scheduled to begin at 10 am on 26 April and will continue until 10 pm the next day. In this phase, 80 tanker lorries and 125 water tanks will be withdrawn from the SPS and Barat Daya areas once 40 per cent of the water supply has been restored. Phase three is set to commence at 10 pm on 27 April and will run until 10 am the following day, with 80 tanker lorries and 120 water tanks being deployed to the end-of-line (EoL) areas, and residential areas on higher ground, after the water supply has been 88 per cent restored.

Five tanks will be decommissioned after 48 hours once most consumers in SPS and Barat Daya have their water supply resumed. The WRP will only be phased out once 95 per cent of the water supply is fully restored. Datuk K. Pathmanathan further elaborated that water restoration is expected within 24 hours for those in Seberang Perai Utara (SPU), SPT, and Timur Laut districts, while consumers in SPS and Barat Daya areas should expect restoration within 48 hours. Full restoration is anticipated within 60 hours for all affected consumers, including those in EoL areas and residential areas on higher ground in the SPS and Barat Daya districts.

Affected consumers are encouraged to plan by storing enough water for 24, 48, or 60 hours, depending on the projected duration of water supply interruption in their areas.
