Central Gurney – The New Nexus for Food, Beverage and Lifestyle

Central Gurney, a new lifestyle and dining hub, opened its doors beneath G Hotel Gurney yesterday, adding to Penang’s reputation as Malaysia’s food capital. The development, which underwent transformation since May 2023, features 12 dining outlets across two floors.

The venue boasts an open-concept design with indoor and outdoor spaces, including an al fresco dining area. A new escalator connects both levels, creating a seamless flow for visitors.

International brands make their mark at Central Gurney, with Kanada-Ya choosing the venue for its first Malaysian outlet. The renowned ramen chain, voted top ramen brand by London Telegraph, offers its signature Black Truffle Ramen limited to 20 bowls daily.

Other notable establishments include The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Winter Warmers Coffee & Tea House, and Antipodean, a New Zealand café concept known for its ethically sourced coffee. The Loft serves wood-fired pizzas, while Holy Guacamole brings Mexican cuisine to the space.

Miraku, a long-standing tenant of G Hotel for 16 years, has undergone renovation to introduce a new concept including Omakase dining. The venue also features Tree Bar, an outdoor spot set under a century-old Angsana tree, offering drinks, live music and sports screenings.

For dessert enthusiasts, DipnDip provides chocolate-based treats, while Minimelts introduces its first Malaysian outlet, serving flash-frozen ice cream manufactured at -150°C.

Located along Gurney Drive’s seafront promenade, Central Gurney sits near major shopping destinations including Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon Mall. The management plans to launch additional outlets in 2025, further expanding its dining options.

The development aims to serve both locals and tourists, offering various dining experiences from casual eateries to fine dining establishments. With its contemporary design and diverse food options, Central Gurney positions itself as a new landmark in Penang’s culinary landscape.
